Information wants
to be free...

"On the one hand information wants to be expensive, because it's so valuable. The right information in the right place just changes your life. On the other hand, information wants to be free, because the cost of getting it out is getting lower and lower all the time. So you have these two fighting against each other." — Stewart Brand

Welcome

Legal Research CLE Workshops

This website has been created for participants in the Legal Research CLE workshops presented at the WSBA in Seattle and the Whatcom Bar Association in Bellingham. The workshops are aimed at the solo and small firm practitioner and show

    • how to access legal resources quickly, effectively, and economically;
    • strategies for finding federal and state materials, primary and secondary materials, using legal research portals and other sources;
    • an array of legal and law-related materials including print, free online, and proprietary online databases;
    • tips for managing online information resources, documents, and collaborative projects using web-based tools.

GetLaw.net provides easy access to the websites discussed during the workshops. Two sections in the seminar workbook address legal research and law-related online resources. Links for these websites are found under Legal Links.

The final section of the workbook presents ideas for bringing order to chaos in the expanding online universe — links mentioned here are listed under Web Tools.
